MINERVA™ Not-For-Profit software: New release is PIPEDA compliant

Toronto, Ontario - Inquiry Management Systems (IMS) announces the release of version 2 of its Web-based MINERVA™ not-for-profit donor management software. This version builds on the successful 2002 launch of the MINERVA™ service by addressing the compliance requirements found in the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) that came into effect on January 1, 2004.

MINERVA™ is the first turnkey program in the not-for-profit sector that blends donor services (data capture/donation processing/banking/fulfillment) and web-based software (real-time donor access/database management/campaign management/reporting) into a single service so that fundraisers can view, edit and report on their donor information. By outsourcing donor management and donation processing tasks fundraisers are able to re-focus time, energy and effort on meeting organizational goals. The implementation of MINERVA™ will also lower overhead by eliminating the expense of existing donor management software, maintenance costs plus the computer hardware and staff required to manage the process.

The new features include a secured (HTTPS) connection to the MINERVA™ servers; creation of real-time S.A.F.E. (Search/Add/Flag/Edit) data manipulation; add and edit marketing campaign functions plus invalid transaction reporting and deposit reconciliation. "We have spent the better part of 8-months in heads-down programming to put these changes into effect to meet the tough new privacy laws and we now look forward to assisting the not-for-profit community in complying," said Martin Hochstein, President of IMS. Mr. Hochstein adds, "We have had a lot of interest in this release from not-for-profits that are currently using American software since some did not make allowances for these new Canadian laws during their development."

By using MINERVA™ donation processing services, not-for-profit organizations in Canada would comply with PIPEDA Principle #7 - Safeguarding Data, since all data is secured behind the IMS firewall and backed up at its co-location facility. Additionally, all tax receipts and most direct mail is produced by IMS to limit the transfer of donor-sensitive information to a third-party, which complies with PIPEDA Principle #5 - Limited Use, Disclosure and Retention.

MINERVA™ is also used in telemarketing to further limit data transfer and avoid duplicate entry of information, which aids in complying with PIPEDA Principle #6 - Accuracy. Donor flags are applied to identify donors that do not want their name traded or exchanged (in compliance with PIPEDA Principle #3 - Consent). In addition, donor flags are used to regulate the frequency of appeals (in compliance with PIPEDA Principle #9 - Individual Access). As well, the use of donor flags enables charities to become much more donor-centric in their marketing efforts.

The cost of the MINERVA™ solution is $125 per month for the first 5 users and $25 per month for additional users. The processing charge varies based on donation volume and tax receipt frequency but is very competitive with others in the marketplace. MINERVA™ is available 24/7 but only to registered users with a valid user ID and password. The MINERVA™ login function is configured at the user-level to allow or restrict access to data on a "need to know" basis.
